Excellent written book with believable, gritty characters set in Cambridgeshire.

The book is set around Jack Milner, a returning ex-policeman / forces veteran and a 30 year old missing victim, who is found brutally murdered. Many of the characters intertwine and you get to understand how a series of events are connected, and the complexity of relationships as people grow up.

The author has left an opening to get to know the characters even more, as not all mysteries are cleared up in this first book, and that just adds to the reading. I was engrossed with the book and finished it within 2 days. The way it was written reminds me of Mark Billingham's work.

This is Butler's first book and I would highly recommend it and I look forward to more of his work.
